Accessing Supports

The Arc of Rensselaer County welcomes any inquiry or application for a support or service for a person with a developmental disability. We are open to explore the support possibilities with those who are interested prior to any formal application for services. We can also provide guidance and direction on how to apply for OPWDD related services. Our agency works closely with the local arm of OPWDD to determine eligibility and availability for services.

The Arc of Rensselaer County provides support to Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities. These supports range from summer camp, in home support, residential support, day supports, guardianship, self-direction, etc, These supports are authorized by the New York State Office of People with Development Diabilities, OPWDD. Testimonials and Success Stories

In November of 2004 I broke my leg and taking care of my then 24 year old son was a huge challenge. He had multiple needs, which required me to be physically fit to manage him. My husband was working full time and couldn't take time off and my other three children were grown and out on their own. Sandy VanEck heard of my plight and organized a wonderful group of people from The Arc office and residential programs to come in and help take care of Jimmy. Sandy also arranged for grant money so people could be paid for their generosity. It was simply wonderful seeing such caring people and I made many new friends. The Arc will always have a special place in my heart.
