Lauren's Story

Meet Lauren, a young woman who has an upbeat, energetic, engaging personality along with a remarkable enthusiasm for life. Her interests include the medical field, forensic science, and sports. Lauren has become a first responder with the Hoags Corner volunteer ambulance company where she has been a member for over a year.

But one of the most important parts of Lauren’s life was her love of music. This love for music led her to meet Rachel, an employee at The Arc of Rensselaer. One day, Lauren was rockin’ out in the hallway with drum sticks and air drums. Rachel asked her if she played drums. She replied, “Yes!” and insisted she was going to be a rock star!

Rachel, recognizing the amazingness of Lauren’s love of music, informed Lauren that her boyfriend, Randy, played in a band. Lauren immediately showed interest in Randy and his band. With the new found commonality, a friendship grew. Rachel went home that night and told her boyfriend, Randy, about her new friend Lauren. Rachel told him how excited Lauren was about learning to play the drums. Randy promptly but together a care package for Lauren and sent it to work with Rachel. Drumsticks, a bandanna, wristbands, and a drumming practice pad came in the care package, along with an invite to band practice. Lauren, of course, accepted the invite and automatically became a member of the band. She fit right in with the joking and the teasing that occurs between band members. She wasn’t shy to point out when something didn’t sound right and the band joked with her, calling her a “Diva.” Since then, Lauren has been to two shows and, each time, the band calls her up on stage to perform a song with them. Her signature song is I Love Rock And Roll. According to Lauren, she feels like this is her dream come true.
